A sense of vibrancy led by the “energetic Dean Rudy Lamone” and a core of high-quality faculty inspired Michael O. Ball to join the University of Maryland’s College of Business and Management faculty in 1978.
Looking back, he wouldn’t have made any other choice.

Maryland Smith Welcomes UMD President Pines
Darryll J. Pines officially takes the helm of the state of Maryland’s flagship university on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, becoming the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park, and continuing a career of leadership and excellence. At the Robert H. Smith School of Business, his appointment to the university’s top job, back in February 2020, was met with cheers. Understandably – Pines previously served as dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, and the Smith School and the Clark School have a long, strong history of partnership.
FAA Extends Funding for NEXTOR III Aviation Operations Research Consortium
The 23-year-old consortium has developed decision support tools, operational and system concepts, and policymaking tools that benefit the FAA, the airline industry and the flying public. With the University of Maryland's delayed opening due to inclement weather, the 16th annual Forum on Financial Information Systems and Cybersecurity: A Public Policy Perspective will start at 10 a.m. today -- Jan. 8, 2020 in Van Munching Hall, Room 1412.
