Jan Oskar Bolin recently traveled from Norway to College Park to audit a PhD Seminar on Marketing Strategy under Maryland Smith’s Roland Rust. “A key takeaway,” he says, “is under the right conditions artificial intelligence (AI)could prompt a seismic shift that reverberates throughout the entire economy. But good decisions will have to be made.”

Welcome to the 2021-2022 academic year. This year, those words are particularly heartfelt. To our freshman and sophomore classes, to our master’s students and to anyone else who is coming to campus for the first time, welcome. And to our junior and senior classes, and to our other returning students, welcome back. It’s so good to see you.

The Center for Global Business announces that Roxanne Jaffe, a doctoral candidate in the department of management and organization, has received the 2021 PhD International Research Award. The award is funded by CIBE, a Title VI grant administered by the U.S.

Business schools from the Big Ten universities are teaming up to increase diversity in their PhD programs. Rebecca Hann, assistant dean of doctoral programs and accounting professor, is leading the charge at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

The University of Maryland has named Prabhudev Konana, Ph.D., Dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, effective January 2, 2021. In this role, he will lead Smith in its mission to create knowledge, promote an inclusive learning environment that fosters intellectual discovery, and equip current and future leaders to assess complex problems and deliver innovative solutions.

Maryland Smith welcomed new students to school for the fall 2020 semester with a full lineup of orientation activities, held virtually via Zoom this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Darryll J. Pines officially takes the helm of the state of Maryland’s flagship university on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, becoming the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park, and continuing a career of leadership and excellence.

When appointed as the University of Maryland president in 2010, Wallace Loh inspired the greater Maryland community with his challenge to “Lead Fearlessly.” Now, 10 years later, Loh is stepping down as president and entrusting future generations of Terps to continue the work he began.
