Admissions
We welcome ambitious, highly motivated professionals who seek a rigorous academic program taught by our world-renowned faculty.
Requirements
Academic History
The online application allows you to upload a scanned official transcript(s) for each college or university attended. If the official transcript where you received your degree does not state the degree was conferred, please also upload an official diploma or official copy of your degree received (most schools already list the conferred degree on the transcript). If you are formally admitted to the University of Maryland, you will be required to submit an official transcript to the graduate school. If your transcript is not in English, please also submit an official transcript translated into English.
The University of Maryland Graduate School requires admitted students to have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0/4.0. Applicants who have a grade point average below 3.0 may still be considered but are required to use the essay to address this.
Quantitative Preparation
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to successfully complete quantitative coursework. Candidates without previous undergraduate or graduate quantitative coursework, strong quantitative skills displayed on the GMAT or GRE test, or quantitative-centered professional experience, may be asked to demonstrate their abilities by taking a class (such as calculus) at an accredited institution prior to beginning coursework.
Graduate Admissions Test (GMAT/GRE)
GMAT/GRE waivers are available in the Online Master of Science in Business Analytics program. To learn if you qualify for a waiver based on your work experience and academic record, please complete the Maryland Advantage Form. You will be asked to upload a copy of your transcripts and resume in the form.
For questions about GMAT/GRE waivers through Maryland Advantage, schedule a consultation with our business master's recruiter. If you are eligible for Maryland Advantage, apply for it before submitting your OMSBA application.
For more information on the GMAT or GRE and to request an official score report, please visit www.mba.com. To request an official score report, please visit www.ets.org/gre. When requesting a score report be sent to the University of Maryland, please use the following institutional codes for the Online MS in Business Analytics: GMAT code is SQT-N8-32; GRE code is 5814.
Professional History
Through your resume, we want to learn about your professional history from the time you graduated from your undergraduate degree up until you apply. Although we do not have a required format, we suggest using a resume akin to one you would use to apply for a job. Typical resumes we see are one page, although a second page can be used if your professional history is robust.
Letter of Recommendation
A recommendation should be solicited from an individual who can objectively comment on an applicant’s performance in a professional environment. Only one recommendation letter is required with your application.
Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $75 is required. Please pay by credit card as you submit your application online. The application fee is waived for UMD Terp alumni and military service members and veterans.
Essay
The admissions committee looks for essays that clearly and concisely answer the assigned question. It is preferred that applicants keep their submission to approximately 500 words, or two pages double-spaced. Be clear about your career goals, qualifications, and why you want to earn your MSBA. Before submitting, be sure to check for spelling and grammatical errors.
Language Proficiency Exam
The University of Maryland, College Park, requires any applicant who has not completed a university degree in a country in which English is the primary language to take the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE. The admissions committee will not review your file without your English proficiency exam. For more information about our specific requirements, school codes, and exempt countries please visit the Graduate School's proficiency requirements page.
