Finance & Venture Capital Association

The Smith MBA Finance and Venture Capital Association works to prepare students for opportunities in finance-related careers and enhance students' knowledge and understanding of the field. FVC helps students achieve their career goals through mock interviews, resume reviews, job finding strategy sessions, and seminars on careers in finance. The association also contributes through panel discussions that explore a variety of finance-related topics, sponsoring talks by leading professionals in the finance field, and arranging networking events.

Navid Mazloom

President

Navid is a Double Terp and Double Smith student (UG ‘13). While completing his bachelor's degree in International Business and Supply Chain Management he co-founded a company in the sustainable urban mobility space (College Scooters, Shore Cycles). After growing the business for 10 years to be the regional market leader in this industry he facilitated the sale of the company to investors and decided to return to Smith to pursue an MBA focused on finance and consulting to better prepare him for a career in strategy. Navid will be interning at Chewy this summer in their Private Brands Finance department. He currently lives in Catonsville, MD with his wife and two sons and enjoys spending time with them, golfing, and traveling.

Fun Fact

On my first Motorcycle camping trip I rode down to Tennessee and completed the "Tail of the Dragon" - 318 curves in 11 miles.

Nouman Ali

With four years of experience in banking and CPG Industry of Pakistan, I plan to pursue same corporate finance career after my MBA in 2023. Being part of the FVCA, I will strive to build and bring together finance community and help them achieve their goals while growing professionally and personally.

Fun Fact

In a school play, I played the role of Papa Bear and the Little Bear still calls me Papa.

Alejandro Smith

Alejandro is a proud Marylander. Born in Calvert County he attended the College of Southern Maryland where he went to Nationals for Cross Country before transferring to Maryland Smith and graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Finance. Post graduation Alejandro started up his career in San Diego. After a few years as a financial analyst in the world of Pharmaceuticals Alejandro came back to Smith to earn his MBA. Alejandro will continue his career in Pharmaceuticals as a Commercial Leadership Development Summer Associate with Takeda. Alejandro is known as a collaborative, methodical, and driven leader. 

Fun Fact

I've visited over a dozen National Parks and my favorite thus far is Glacier!
